THE CREATIVE SPACE – OUR STUDIO

Nestled in the heart of Industrial Sunbury are our state of the art studios.

2/4 Frederick Street, Sunbury

You will find two dance studios with sprung flooring and our singing studio. Our larger dance studio is fitted with Ivy League dance floors who are Australia’s leader for dance-safe floors. Both studios are fitted with wall-to-wall mirrors and high-end stereo systems.
The singing studio comprises the professional audio equipment including radio (cordless) microphones which are used in every lesson.

EXAMS/COMPETITIONS

This year there will be a greater focus on our students progressing to examinations. Exams are critical in building strong technique, a great work ethic and pride for the young dancer. Please talk to your teachers on how this may look for your child.
We look forward to 2021 to additionally deliver more focus on enabling students to compete. Competitions will be available via private lessons and selected troupes (additional fees and training sessions may apply). Please register your interest here.

ANNUAL PERFORMANCE

The concert is great way to showcase all of our students’ hard work throughout the year! It is a big step getting on stage so we encourage you to bring family and friends to support your dancer!

Annual Theatre Performance: Sunday 28th November 2021
Solo/Comp Showcase: Date TBC

There may be extra performance opportunities/competitions throughout the year.

UNIFORM

One of the most important aspects of dance is the grooming. Aside from being able to clearly see the movement of the body, wearing the appropriate attire and hair to each class shows teachers that students take pride in their dancing training. Grooming will help prepare a young dancer for exams, competitions, shows and even their career later on in life.
Uniform will look a little different this year. While we have our incredible supplier Activated Industry for tinies leotards, singlets and jackets, we are also allowing students to dress in an all-black uniform.
All uniform orders (jackets/singlets and Fifi Leotards) after initial enrolment are to be made at Reception and paid in cash.
We do not expect you to have shoes in the first week or two but students will require the specified shoes if they continue with the class.
Uniform requirements/shoes vary depending on class type:

  • Jazz – Dance Space Sunbury singlet OR all black (BLACK leotard/crop top or fitted singlet and BLACK shorts/leggings) jazz shoes (tan for juniors, black for inter/seniors), hair in a high ponytail or bun
  • Tap – Dance Space Sunbury singlet OR all black (BLACK leotard/crop top or fitted singlet and BLACK shorts/leggings), tan tap shoes, hair in a high ponytail or bun
  • Hip Hop – BLACK loose fitted clothing/tracksuit allowed for this class only, sneakers, hair in high ponytail. We are looking to add a DSS Hip Hop T-Shirt (stay tuned)
  • Acrobatics/Lyrical/Floor Flow – Dance Space Sunbury singlet OR all black (BLACK leotard/crop top or fitted singlet and BLACK shorts/leggings), NO shoes, hair in a high ponytail or bun

Money can get tight at times and we understand it can be hard coughing up a full term’s worth of dance fees in one hit! That’s why we have multiple payment options in place.
Below are our flexible fee options:

  • Paid in FULL at the commencement of each term
  • Weekly Direct Debit option (forms to be completed at Reception)

Paying week by week via Direct Debit means you do not have to stress to pull together funds each time the term starts and may be more manageable for you! Payments will run each week of term and are suspended over the school holidays.
Other fees such as costume levy will still be invoiced and payable at reception.

TIMETABLE

Our comprehensive timetable is sure to include something your dancer will love. Below are small descriptions on what you can expect for each genre.

RAD Ballet – Learn the grace and technique in classical ballet which is the core fundamental to all styles of dance. RAD Ballet classes teach Syllabus work for exams as well as a choreographed piece for the end of year performance (RAD Syllabus & Progressive ballet technique)

Open Ballet – For the intermediate dancer to learn the grace and technique in classical ballet which is the core fundamental to all styles of dance, in a more casual approach. Please note, this class does not include exam repertoire or an item in the end of year show. Participation is highly encouraged for students dedicated to improve technique.

Jazz – Upbeat, fun and has many genres within itself! Focuses on flexibility, technique and style while setting a great foundation for other genres of dance.

Musical Theatre – Let your inner star out while learning how to perform using Musical theatre skills of drama, acting and song. This class is the perfect blend of song and dance in a group setting.

Tap – Make some noise! Tap dancing teaches you rhythm and co-ordination like no other. Using the CSTD Tapping Syllabus it is a great skill for a dancer to have.

Hip Hop – Derived from street dancing, hip hop is now a common part of the dance world. Learn the most current moves with attitude and you’ll look like you’ve just stepped out of a music video!

Lyrical – Lyrical is a relatively new style of dance merging ballet, contemporary and jazz moves together. The dance is emotive and often portrays a story which allows the dancer to tap into real expression. This is a technical class and prerequisites are in place (you must also be participating in ballet and/or jazz).

Acrobatics – Learn some seriously amazing skills to compliment any dancer. With a gymnastics element, acrobatics teaches the dancer how to incorporate tumbling or balance skills into dance routines. Preschool Acrobatics also available.

Floor Flow – The perfect class for Lyrical and Acro lovers! This class combines strength and flexibility while teaching amazing tricks – all performed on the floor! A must-try and one-of-a-kind class, we highly recommend.

Adult Jazz/Cabaret – Beginner friendly and loads of fun! Leave your kids at home while YOU get to be the star. Learn basic jazz technique and steps plus a Cabaret style routine. (Performance optional)

Tinies Ballet – Ballet is best started when a dancer is young and supple. Your prince or princess will love learning the grace and technique of a prima ballerina while having lots of fun!

Little Groovers – Our adorable ‘Little Ones’ (3-5 years) get up to ALL the fun in a combined tap, jazz & song class. Tumbling Tots – For the pre-schooler who is full of beans! With a gymnastics element, acrobatics teaches the dancer how to incorporate tumbling or balance skills into dance routines. Competitions dance/singing – Private lessons and additional group/troupe classes are available
Singing – Singing like you’ve never seen it! 2021 sees the introduction of private tuition. In this comprehensive program, your child will get to develop skills as a soloist – breathing, diction and more. PLUS, singing students in privates work with our professional microphones in every single class to learn the importance of microphone technique. Small groups or semi-privates may be offered depending on availability and/or level of experience.
